2013 - Caught With Their Panzers Down

Friday night sold out with just a few spare seats on Saturday night. The Hall was decked out in 1940's style with posters from era, flags & bunting. Authentic posters such as the iconic "dig for victory" and adverts for Players cigarettes gave an ambiance redolent of the time. The atmosphere was set as we arrived with music from the time playing in the background and we were able to relax with a welcoming drink and nibbles.

The action takes place in the operations room of RAF Tangmere sometime during WW2. The Show opened with Churchill's stirring speech to the "Few" and then that Vera Lynn classic of "White Cliffs of Dover". The "Blackadder" script has been skillfully adapted by Tony Hudson to this novel setting and was appropriately interspersed by many songs from the period. This show was an ensemble piece with strong performances from Grahame Vick [Wing Commander], Jason Green [Flight Sergeant], Andy Horner [Flasheart - a gift of a part], Julie Bolton [Section Officer Sally], Helen Jones [Section Officer Phyllis], David O'Connor & Ron Haysom [Fying Officers waiting for the scramble to action stations that never comes] and a cameo performance from John Stone who played a convincing corporal [Baldrick] well.

Altogether a rollicking good show and lots of fun.
